Johnston Committee
The Committee had been established in 1959 to investigate the law of designs (and honour a pledge made in May 1958 by the President of the Board of Trade to Alan Green, Conservative MP for Preston, in return for his withdrawing a Bill that would have created a 3 year interim copyright for all designs). Headed by barrister Kenneth Johnston, the Committee reported in 1961 Board of Trade, Report of the Departmental Committee on Industrial Designs, (1961), Cmnd 1808. Its members included barrister and textbook author Alan Russell-Clarke.
